Punchdrunk Enrichment was founded by Artistic Director Peter Higgin in 2008 to take the innovative practice of Punchdrunk into communities and schools. Founded by Felix Barrett, Punchdrunk are celebrated as pioneers of a new form of theatre in which roaming audiences experience epic storytelling inside sensory theatrical worlds. Since its inception, Punchdrunk Enrichment has delivered a wide range of projects in a variety of settings. Today, Punchdrunk Enrichment is an independent charity dedicated to creating experiences for as wide an audience as possible. In May 2023 we will embark on a 3-year residency in an unused industrial unit in Wembley Park, Brent which will deliver the first ever co-created immersive arts space, co-designed and built with local makers and borough residents. During this period, Punchdrunk Enrichment will also foster new work, offer community inspired immersive experiences for families, projects for primary schools and training opportunities for Brent-based young people and artists. What we do We are a values-led organisation and care about children and young people, artists of the future, and communities underserved by conventional cultural programmes. We attract national and international collaborators, and have previously taken our projects into schools, care homes, community theatres, warehouses and found spaces. Our programme includes installation projects for whole primary schools such as The Lost Lending Library, along with teacher-led adventures including A Small Tale for Years 1-4, A Curious Quest for the whole school and The Vanishing Land for Years 5 and 6. We are committed to developing the creative practice of teachers in a sustainable way. A cohort of London teachers are part of the Immersive Learning Collective, a three year programme exploring the application of Enrichment practice in school settings. In September 2021, Immersive Learning Journeys, a three year programme supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation began: delivering a range of projects to eight primary schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, enabling the company to assess the impact of immersive experiences in education over the longer term. Past projects for communities and families include The Wild Visitor and Our Home Story, digital experiences for children and their parents/carers, Small Wonders, a production for 5-11 year olds and their families which was part of the programme for LIFT 2018 and Edinburgh International Children’s Festival 2019, Against Captain’s Orders, a family show created in partnership with the National Maritime Museum and Greenhive Green, which took place in a care home for older people including those with dementia. Our Talent Development programme includes opportunities for students, early and mid career creatives to gain insights to our practice through our masterclasses and for young people not in education, employment or training to get paid, practical experience learning about backstage roles. Job title: Venue Manager Role Summary Punchdrunk Enrichment is seeking a Venue Manager for the company’s new home in Wembley Park encompassing a production workshop; immersive arts space; office and store. This role will collaborate with the operations team on effective building operations delivering a welcoming, secure, clean, safe and comfortable environment for all users of the facilities. The successful candidate will be full-time and site based at Watkin Road with overall responsibilities for building and venue management processes and procedures. This is a new role for the organisation and we anticipate it will evolve as the company’s new home develops. The key components of the role will encompass building, venue and production management. We will be welcoming audiences into our building in May 2024 and you will play a key part in making sure we are ready to open our doors. Responsible to: Head of Finance and Operations Responsible for: Duty Managers Key Relationships: Production Manager, Company Coordinator, Project Managers (Programme) internal and external contacts at all levels, Wembley Park Estate Management, External Contractors Salary: £30,450 Responsibilities Venue Management * Responsible for the building management plan across all three units including: site management; duty manager rota and staffing; security; fire safety; lone working; heating, cooling and ventilation etc. * Opening of the building each day to ensure the spaces are ready for staff and freelancers to commence work safely and comfortably. * Working collaboratively across the organisation to support the development and implementation of venue management strategies including box office, front of house, CRM and Health and Safety. * Responsible for external contractors on site including sourcing quotes, negotiating rates and scheduling works then ensuring appropriate RAMS and PLI policies are in place, leading site inductions and overseeing works on site. * Responsible for running the immersive arts space with the Production Manager. * Ensure that building security is managed and planned for at all times. * Lead on Landlord liaison across Estate Management; Security and basebuild repairs / defects. * Ensure optimum performance of the building through strategic contract management, warranty management, pro-active improvements and repair and maintenance programme and value for money. * Working with the design team to ensure the building’s onsite store areas and organisation of projects are maintained between engagements. * Identify any gaps in building operations delivery working with the Head of Finance and Ops to find solutions. * Provide professional supervision ensuring work is planned and managed, and communication is appropriate and proactive. * Contribute to positive neighbour relationships. * Responsible for capital repairs and maintenance. * Ensure and sustain a high satisfaction level of visitor experience. * Deal with stakeholder requests in a timely manner. * Lead on PDE environmental responsibility strategy, broadening knowledge and take-up organisation-wide, responsible for reporting and compliance on green matters. * Coordinate with the Head of Finance and Operations on building-related insurance matters. Health & Safety - in collaboration with the Production Manager and Operations team: * Ensure compliance with all building and safety codes and legislation, insurance requirements, and user requirements (eg safeguarding, access). * Be a key point of contact for all Health & Safety matters and support a culture of safe working. * Responsibility for Watkin Road’s Health & Safety Policy and Manual and communicating requirements organisation-wide. * Work to prevent any unsafe or hazardous event or activity. General responsibilities: * Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required. * Be a positive and friendly ambassador for PDE. Person Specification Knowledge and experience Essential * Experience of venue operations, facilities management or related responsibilities. * Knowledge of building maintenance, health and safety, and building operations legislation. * Qualified First Aider, recently trained in IOSH Managing Health & Safety. * Commitment to diversity and inclusion and creating an equal opportunities workplace. * Commitment to anti-racism. Desirable * An understanding of the operational workings of arts organisations. * Basic knowledge of technical infrastructure such as theatre lighting, sound, construction and overall industry standards. * Experience of managing and developing staff and teams. * Experience working in or setting up a venue. Skills and attributes Skills * Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic building issues using resources and tools on site (drills, spanners etc). * Skill and aptitude to see the big picture, but with an eye for detail, to constantly challenge ways of working and to provide the highest level of service standards. * High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask. * Able to prioritise easily, especially under pressure, all the while able to deliver strategic goals of the organisation, alongside reacting to urgent matters. * Good communication skills and an ability to convey complex and detailed information clearly, coherently and in an orderly fashion. This can be through alternative means such as BSL. * IT literate with a knowledge of Excel or project management systems. PDE’s new office is an open-plan space on the ground floor of our building, accessed by a ramp. The ground floor of the new office is wheelchair accessible; there are accessible toilets and a mix of loud and quiet spaces. The nearest wheelchair accessible tube stop is Wembley Park and the route is 0.4 miles and mostly flat. There are 200 disabled parking spaces in Wembley Park car park. PDE’s store is on a mezzanine level in Unit 22 and unfortunately isn’t accessible. However reasonable adjustments would be made to enable applicants to successfully carry out their job. The role will involve regular meetings, communicating via phone/video, email and in person and using a computer for several hours across the day. Some evening and weekend working, including the delivery of workshops, press nights and attending partner events, will be required as part of this role. PDE is a busy organisation and has around 20 members of staff. The team is sociable and friendly. Breaks are encouraged throughout the day and staff mostly take a full lunch break to eat together. All staff have a line manager who is responsible for work development and pastoral care as well as a buddy system for new starters. Usual office hours are 10am-6pm, we offer flexible working where possible.
